CITY OF BENTONVILLE: Protected Bike Lanes

Bikestation 1000x667

City of Bentonville issued the following announcement on Mar. 9.

The City of Bentonville is pleased to announce the implementation of protected bike lanes along two key corridors: NW 3rd Street from Walton Boulevard to the Coler Mountain Bike Preserve, and SW 8th Street from SW I Street to the Applegate Trailhead at SW Sims Drive. Construction is set to begin on Monday, March 7, and should be completed during summer 2022.

In addition to establishing physically separated bike lanes, this project also includes traffic calming elements that will create safer corridors for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike. Once completed, these projects will create seamless connections to key destinations in Bentonville.

Safe and protected bicycle lanes were a high priority indicated by citizens during the City’s Street Master Plan and the Connect Bentonville (Bicycle and Pedestrian) Plan. Both of these plans were adopted by Planning Commission and City Council in 2021. This project, a result of those plans, creates the first dedicated bike lanes in the community. Both plans layout a master network for future on-street cycling infrastructure, but these two projects are critical to long-term success of a safe and protected network.
