City of Centerton issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.
We will have a active week in weather starting Monday night, please see detailed update from the National Weather Service in Tulsa, I’ll update as we move closer to the events.
We are in for an active period of weather across eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. We will see everything from increased fire danger today to severe storms Monday night and Tuesday morning and finally a couple of rounds of impactful winter weather Wednesday and Thursday.
The severe storm potential will come Monday night into Tuesday morning as a cold front sweeps through the region. The greatest potential will be across southeast Oklahoma into west-central Arkansas. Large hail and damaging winds are the main concern. However, there will be a very low but not zero chance of tornadoes.
Wednesday and Thursday we will have the potential for a couple of rounds of wintry weather.
All modes of winter weather will be possible this includes freezing rain, sleet and snow. It is still too early to pinpoint precipitation types and amounts. However, all indications are that this event could have significant impacts on area travel and could possibly cause power interruptions to areas that
see that the heaviest amounts of ice accumulations.
While the forecast will continue to be refined with time, confidence is increasing that this could be a significant event for portions of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas.
