Congressman Steve Womack of Arkansas has expressed his support for the recently passed House Budget Resolution, H. Con. Res. 14. This resolution is intended to serve as a budget blueprint and facilitate the reconciliation process.
In his statement, Congressman Womack emphasized the importance of this step, saying, “This budget resolution is step one. It serves as a budget blueprint and procedural avenue to unlock the reconciliation process." He added that advancing the resolution through both chambers is crucial for implementing commonsense policies that benefit the nation.
The resolution outlines various financial strategies aimed at boosting national prosperity. It includes investments in border security, national defense, and energy production while aiming to save taxpayer dollars. The plan also aims to extend Trump-era tax cuts, which Womack argues will prevent significant tax increases for families and small businesses.
Womack stated, "Investments in border security, national defense, and energy production—while saving taxpayer dollars—are tools to build a more prosperous nation." He further noted that "The resolution also provides a pathway to extend the Trump tax cuts."
H. Con. Res. 14 sets out budgetary instructions for committees to draft legislation focused on providing tax relief for working families and small businesses, reducing federal spending, enhancing energy dominance, and improving national safety.
Key elements of the resolution include setting targets for reconciliation legislation drafting by committees and mandating at least $1.5 trillion in mandatory spending savings over ten years. It encourages committees to aim for $2 trillion in total deficit reduction.
The resolution allocates up to $300 billion for border security and defense while allowing room for the Ways and Means Committee to prevent tax hikes aligned with President Trump's tax priorities. Additionally, it proposes an increase in the debt ceiling by $4 trillion.
"My vote today was to establish the framework to deliver tangible results for Americans," Congressman Womack concluded.
