Value of Consumer Discretionary company Walmart Inc. (WMT:NYQ) based in Bentonville fell 23.1% on Sept. 2

Value in Consumer Discretionary stocks rose 11.8 percent on Sept. 2 from the previous day.

The strongest performing Consumer Discretionary company in Arkansas was Walmart Inc. (WMT:NYQ), dropping 23.1 percent to sell at $133.26.

Dillard's Inc. (DDS:NYQ) fared the worst among Arkansas companies, suffering a 30.8 percent drop to $289.07.

Among Bentonville companies, Walmart Inc. (WMT:NYQ) saw the biggest fall in value of 23.1 percent on Sept. 2.

The Telecommunications sector was the daily best-performing sector on the market.

Health Care was the worst-performing sector.

Healthcare and technology stocks are viewed as the safest bets for long-term gains.

Besty Kuekcer with Benzinga.com said healthcare-related stocks, such as hospital conglomerates and insurance companies, have weathered numerous economic crises and still make a profit, suggesting that they are generally a stable investment.

While technology stocks can be more risky, given the boom-bust nature of new tech companies, Kuecker recommended a diverse portfolio of tech companies to strike it big when companies succeed or sell to other larger companies.

For short-term investments, Kuecker recommended “consumer discretionary” stocks, which are sensitive to economic changes but can rise greatly on the back of a strong economy.
